Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Thematic Jam question>>>

This is a very vague question I know but I've been thinking about it most of the afternoon and can't come up with it.

Was there any Me and My Uncle jams within a Dark Star? Or Other One? I could've sworn I saw that in some notes on LL and I downloaded the show to listen to it later now I can't remember the show. If it ever existed at all.

Little help?

There are many too and dark star sandwiches out there. More so other one sandwiches.

Try out 1971-12-01 for some fun. Its a unique piece imo.

1971-08-06 is likely all around better, really great stuff. 71 is the year to look for. Though 72 has some, dunno about other years. I enjoyed 9-28's too>bobby mcgee> too the other day.

That's a hilarious question... You may be the first person to ever actually look for a Me & My Uncle Jam!

There are a couple possible answers. Someone mentioned the 4-24-72 DS>Uncle>DS, but forgot about the DS>Uncle>DS from 12-5-71, which might be the one you saw since the Dark Star that night was entirely instrumental!

Other One>Uncle sandwiches in late '71 are extremely common, but generally they go all the way into Uncle instead of just jamming it. Sometimes Weir wants to go there & the band won't follow - for instance, check out this Other One at the 6-minute point, where Weir almost takes them into Uncle, but doesn't succeed. More of a tease than a jam...

Or just possibly, you might have seen the 5-7-69 Me & My Uncle, which holds the award as the trippiest, most jammed-out Uncle. It's not in Dark Star, though (that comes later in the show)...

hmm, I must have misunderstood him.

1971-12-01 does however have a MAMU jam a few minutes before they end up actually playing the song. Lasting of course only somewhere around 10-40 seconds.

This may have been it, I do have that show in rotation in my car at the moment. I'm not sure what made me think I have heard such a thing before, I just couldve sworn I have recently been engrossed in listening to a jam recently and heard Bobby's MAMU part starting in and then fading out.

I have also been listening to a lot of the 72 Box so it also could have been that Dark Star.

4-24-72 has a Dark Star > MAMU > Dark Star sequence, but they play the actual song, it's not just a jam, so this might not be what you're thinking of. Makes for a pretty surreal listening experience anyhow!

Any chance you're thinking Uncle John's Band jams? If so, 11-8-69 at the Fillmore has one (on DP16).

11-14-71 other one > mamu > other one. Its the bonus disc on Austin Road Trips. Heres an old post that may help. http://www.archive.org/post/338382/cowboy-sandwich
